Exciting Advances in Dentures

Advanced dental technology has enabled great strides in dentures, making them more comfortable than ever before. You may have vivid memories of parents or grandparents taking their teeth out to eat or talk, and you may remember the work involved with keeping those dentures clean. Times have changed, and we are excited to show you some of the amazing technology that makes replacing lost teeth so much easier than in the past.

With revolutionary dental technology, our dentists can replace teeth more quickly and with less pain. Don’t let tooth loss ruin your quality of life. There are several tooth replacement options available, and if you’re not a good candidate for dentures or just can’t stand the thought of them, there are other ways to solve the problem of missing teeth. If you’ve been hiding your smile with your hand, avoiding social activities, and staying home due to embarrassment, you need not suffer any longer.

Types of Dentures

We offer three types of dentures at Family Comprehensive & Cosmetic Dentistry in Jacksonville, NC:

  • Complete denture
  • Partial denture
  • Implant denture
  • Complete denture
  • Partial denture
  • Implant denture

Complete dentures are used when all teeth are missing, and partial dentures are used when some teeth are missing, but others remain. A partial denture fills in the spaces created by the missing teeth and prevents other teeth from shifting.

A complete denture will be either “conventional” or “immediate.”

Conventional denture: This type of denture is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, which usually takes four to six weeks, though this time can vary. During this healing time, the patient will go without teeth.

Immediate denture: Immediate dentures are made in advance and are placed immediately after the teeth are removed, preventing you from ever having to be edentulous. Once the tissue shrinks and heals, adjustments may be necessary for a perfect fit. Coming into the office for an adjustment is very common with denture wearers, and the adjustments only take a few minutes with most patients.

Implant Denture: Implant-supported dentures are a permanent tooth replacement solution for those missing either their upper or lower teeth or both. Four to eight implants are typically necessary, and the dentures are attached to the implant. Implant-supported dentures stay securely in place and allow you to enjoy all the foods you love, even the crunchy ones.

Denture Process

If you’re a good candidate for dentures, we will explain that dentures have a time commitment, just as there is with dental implants. Having high-quality dentures that fit correctly takes several appointments. Family Comprehensive & Cosmetic Dentistry is a warm, friendly environment, so we are confident you will enjoy your time here, and we will do everything in our power to keep you calm and comfortable during all of the dental work we perform.

At the beginning of the denture process, we will take impressions (molds) and measurements of your mouth using innovative dental technology that ensures precision and efficiency. You will then have to come in for “try-in” appointments to ensure the dentures’ proper shape, color, and fit. At the final appointment, our denture dentists will make any necessary adjustments to ensure your dentures feel natural and comfortable in your mouth. We will provide detailed care instructions throughout the process and answer any questions you may have.
